Craniosacral therapy

The first time I had a treatment with craniosacral therapy, I was completely surprised at how intensely I experienced the therapeutic touch on my feet alone. My whole body felt soothed and my lower back pain slowly subsided. I was thrilled! I was impressed by how long-lasting the individual treatments were. I was so fascinated by this method that I did a training course.

What is craniosacral therapy?

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, manual treatment method that has evolved from osteopathy and aims to harmonize the cranio-sacral system in the body.

This system includes the skull (cranium), spine and sacrum, as well as the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord.

Tension and blockages in the tissue are released through gentle touch, which leads to improved blood circulation, relaxation of the muscles and better functioning of the nervous system. The body’s own self-healing powers are stimulated and strengthened in a natural way.

For which health problems is craniosacral therapy helpful?

This therapy can be used for various complaints and disorders, such as headaches, stress, sleep disorders, back pain or to support general well-being.

Craneo-sacral therapy helps to reduce stress and promote relaxation.

Some people use this therapy to relieve pain, particularly headaches, migraines, muscle tension and chronic pain.

People with restricted movement, muscle problems or problems in the connective tissue can benefit from the therapy because it improves mobility.

This form of treatment can help improve sleep and alleviate sleep problems.

Craniosacral therapy is often used to relieve emotional stress and deal with various traumas, especially in conjunction with therapeutic approaches such as Somatic Experiencing.

Craniosacral therapy helps to regulate the nervous system and support self-regulation. It therefore helps to improve general well-being.

During a natural birth, the bones of the newborn’s skull shift to facilitate the birthing process. Normally, the skull bones find their way back into the correct position after birth. However, if this is not the case, babies suffer from digestive disorders, are unable to sleep or cry for no apparent reason. Therapy can be very helpful here and can often relieve and improve the overall condition with just a few treatments. Sometimes the mother of the newborn also needs follow-up care and support.

The craniosacral form of treatment is a good complementary form of therapy for developmental delays and disorders.

Many people use this method as a form of health promotion and prevention to improve their general well-being.

How does a treatment with craniosacral therapy work?

During our first treatment, we will get to know each other briefly and I will ask you what brought you to me. Perhaps you are simply curious about this method, or you have a specific reason and cannot find peace in your everyday life, for example.

For the treatment, you lie down on the couch in comfortable clothing. At the beginning, I will hold your feet in my hands. Depending on the symptoms and illness, I will then focus on different areas of the body.

The number of sessions required for craniosacral therapy can vary from person to person and depends on various factors, including the specific state of health you are in and your response to the therapy. A session usually lasts one hour.

Each treatment is an individual process. Your needs and also your personal limitations are always of paramount importance.

Some basic aspects of craniosacral therapy:

Biodynamic craniosacral therapy looks at the body as a whole and aims to harmonize physical, emotional and energetic aspects. Gentle touch and awareness of rhythms: Using light, non-invasive touch and specific hand positions, I particularly explore the cranium, spine and other areas important to the treatment. I focus on the natural rhythms of the craniosacral system. They can be perceived like a subtle pulse in the human body. This pulse is referred to as the craniosacral rhythm or the breathing rhythm of the tissue. These rhythms often become imbalanced due to stress, accidents, operations, birth, shock, experiences that are difficult to overcome or prolonged poor posture.

Is Craneo – Sacral – Therapy suitable for children?

I have been working very successfully with babies and toddlers for many years. I am always happy when I can accompany and support them in a natural way for a good start in life. Craniosacral therapy has proven to be very helpful for many children in different situations and with different health problems. Here are some examples:

After birth, newborns can occasionally suffer from displacement of the cranial bones or tension in the head and neck area. Craniosacral therapy can help to alleviate these tensions.

For children with developmental delays or developmental disorders, this therapy can be helpful in supporting the nervous system and promoting general development.

Some parents look for alternative therapy options to help children with ADHD or concentration difficulties. Craniosacral therapy can be used as part of a more comprehensive approach to alleviate the individual’s perception of stress and improve self-regulation.

For children, especially infants with difficulty falling asleep, the therapy helps to calm the nervous system, promote relaxation and encourage healthy sleep.

Children who have had traumatic experiences can benefit from craniosacral therapy in combination with Somatic Experiencing to experience emotional relief and process traumatic events.
